IAC is looking for a Full Time Lead Advocate to join our team. In this position you will have the opportunity to provide crisis intervention, systems advocacy and support to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

As the Lead Advocate you will provide leadership to the advocate team during assigned times and during leave time of Client Services Director. The position will provide input to Client Services Director for performance evaluations and assist in maintenance of service records and client information, reports and with periodic evaluations, along with providing training for new advocates.

The Lead Advocate will maintain confidentiality in accordance with Alaska Statute 18.66.200 and updated working knowledge of Federal and State laws that effect clients we serve. They will implement policies, protocols and services designed to provide advocacy and support services to victims who are or have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual assault or individuals who are impacted by domestic violence and/or sexual assault. They will provide support services to victims and other individuals impacted by domestic violence, and sexual assault who are residing in emergency shelter, calling on the phone, a non-residential walk in, or a partner or prior victim of a participant in a Batterer’s Intervention Program. These support services include active listening, safety planning, case planning, information and referrals and advocating with other community agencies.

They will also provide advocacy to victim of sexual assault and domestic violence at the hospital as requested through law enforcement and forensic nursing. They will provide Case Management to long-term residents and participants in Transitional Housing, and participate in SART on-call schedule.

The Lead Advocate will facilitate or co-facilitate groups as needed, be a referral source to the ANDVSA Legal Advocacy Project, ALSC, and IAC’s legal program, and maintain accurate client records including statistical records, file management, and summary of contacts according to IAC confidentiality policies and program procedures

The Lead Advocate will implement residential shelter management procedures to ensure the safety of the buildingThis will include communicating maintenance requests to the appropriate individual(s), and address housing issues that require de-escalation and/or mediation.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree in Human Services or a closely related field; prior work experience may be used in lieu of the degree. Applicant will have prior experience in a domestic violence shelter or related setting, excellent interpersonal, group, and written communication skills, commitment to agency's mission and goals, and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles. Applicant must be proficient with computers and ability to do data entry. Must also have a valid AK driver’s license and ability to pass background check.
