Job Summary

The Dena'ina Wellness Center features an integrated model of care.  The Behavioral Health Consultant will be part of our team as we enhance our integrated service delivery model between healthcare disciplines.  This position works within the Primary Care team to provide access to brief intervention for behavioral health needs, monitors client (un'ina) engagement and progress, and makes referrals to ongoing Behavioral Health care.  The Behavioral Health Consultant will work with behavioral health, primary care and wellness providers to provide efficient and effective delivery of behavioral health consultation, crisis and brief intervention to children, adolescents, adults and families in order to improve well-being within an integrated healthcare setting.

Essential Functions

• Provide effective brief interventions to assist primary care un'ina in successfully achieving goals.
• Provide screening assessment, diagnosis, and referral on an as needed basis.
• Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.
• Actively participate in meetings that support the integrated health care model to provide comprehensive care for un'ina.
• Assist in the detection of "at risk" un'ina and develop plans to promote wellness.
• Assist the integrated care team in developing care management processes such as the use of guidelines, disease management techniques, case management, and patient education to improve self-management of chronic disease.
• Provide assessment, consultation, and brief intervention for psychological/psychiatric problems and/or disorders.
• Educate un'ina, families, and staff in the BHC's areas of expertise.
• Demonstrate current knowledge Alaska Native/American Indian cultures and the ability utilize appropriate cultural activities to support recovery from behavioral health and substance use disorders.
• Provides therapeutic consultation services to other Wellness Center departments and Tribal programs as directed and approved by the Behavioral Health Director.
• Actively participate in weekly clinical and individual supervision meeting with the Director and Behavioral Health Clinicians.
• Keep un'ina records up to date, comprehensive in nature and in accordance with Tribal, State and Medicaid standards.
• Timely submission of un'ina billing information.
• Provide regular individual and/or group supervision to the Case Managers for case consultation.
• Complete clinical supervision evaluation checklists and other related paperwork for staff in a timely manner.
• Provide support and guidance for staff in completing their specialized training requirements for their individual certifications.
• Notify the Behavioral Health Director of any clinical supervision or employee conduct concerns.
• Kenaitze Indian Tribe licensed and certified personnel will be held accountable for providing services in accordance with relevant external or internal requirements and education, such as, legislation governing practice; licensure, registration, and certification requirements; professional degrees; professional training to maintain established competency levels; on-the-job training requirements of the program; and professional standards of practice.

Qualifications

Education

• Masters in Counseling/Addiction Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field required.

License/Certification

• Licensed as a LPC, LCSW, Psych Associate or similar in Alaska.
• Valid Alaska Driver License and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy.

Experience

• Five to seven years' experience providing services in a behavioral health setting.
• Experience with electronic health records, computerized management information system.
• Knowledge and experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian people.

Special Skills

• Excellent interpersonal communications, public speaking, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency at clinical writing skills, with willingness to submit a writing sample.
• Knowledge of child protection and ICWA laws.
• Must be willing to become familiar with Tribal Court Codes.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and 42 CFR, Part 2 regulations.

Preferred

• Certification as State of Alaska Chemical Dependency Counselor I.
• Knowledge of the Tribal Behavioral Health Aide/CHAP system.
