Job Summary 

Anchorage School District is immediately seeking skilled and motivated Special Education Teachers who share our commitment to increasing accessibility and engagement in education. We are currently offering a $5,000 signing bonus or up to $10,000 in relocation assistance to all new Special Education Teachers. 

As a Special Education Teacher at ASD, you will plan and provide learning experiences for students with disabilities, including cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities, in a variety of educational settings. You will create a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction and establishes effective rapport with students. 

Essential Job Functions 

• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere. 

• Teaches students with respect for their individual and cultural characteristics. 

• Facilitates, monitors, and assesses student learning. 

• Creates and maintains a learning environment in which all students are actively engaged and contributing members. 

• Works as a partner with parents, families, and the community. 

Required Qualifications 

A valid teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education. 

OR 

A certified General Education Teacher may be hired into a Special Education Teacher position as part of our Alternate Certificate Program. You will have three years to earn your endorsement in special education, and ASD will assist with tuition reimbursement. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Evidence of experience working with special education students. 

• Experience working collaboratively to support the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) needs of special education students in a public school setting.
