Job Overview

Assists and provides guidance to prospective Job Corps enrollees by determining basic eligibility, conducting screening, and providing career-based counseling.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions: 

  • Preparation of correspondence, student applications and required reports. Maintain confidentiality of student records.
  • Participate in the formulation and implementation of the outreach plan.
  • Maintain ongoing outreach to agencies, schools, community programs and military recruiters by conducting presentations to individuals, student groups, communities, agencies, schools, and potential employers to foster interest in Job Corps and to generate referrals to the Job Corps program.
  • Screen qualified youth for entry into Job Corps according to procedures and criteria. Obtain additional information necessary to evaluate eligibility, and suitability; complete application accurately, and when necessary, submit to the San Francisco Regional Office for approval. 
  • Notify applicants of acceptance (disapproval) and assignment. Prepare students for departure to Job Corps.  
  • Maintain a resource file for referral purposes. Refer inappropriate or ineligible youth to one (1) alternative program and/or agency.
  • Establish partnerships with communities to ensure that accurate information about Job Corps is delivered to interested individuals.
  • Communicate basic requirements of Job Corps eligibility to urban and rural youth, youth influencers (parents, elders, teachers, counselors, etc.), and potential future employers.
  • Conduct weekly orientation at the OA Office in Anchorage.
  • Contact One Stops or Job Service agencies in rural and urban communities to establish interagency relationships and improve the level of service provided by all agencies involved.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field; or an Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field, and 2 years’ related experience. Experience may include successful Job Corps outreach and admissions experience or successful outreach and admissions experience with other youth development programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook at an intermediate level.
  • Successfully pass background check and drug test required on the contract.
  • Current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
