Job Summary:

Specialize in using equipment and supplies necessary to demonstrate portions of the human body on X-ray for diagnostic purposes. Assist lab in performing general functions including routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Essential Functions:

Radiology Specific:

  • Specialize in maintaining and using X-ray equipment.
  • Uses beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding skills to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff.
  • Moves x-ray equipment into position and adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance.
  • Positions patient on examine table and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area requested by medical provider.      
  • Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Utilize Computed Radiography System.

Laboratory Specific:

  • Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood, and urine.
  • Performs collection and processing of blood and other body fluids from patients.
  • Be able to multitask.

Position Specific:

  • Performs all Laboratory Information System (LIS) functions necessary to complete patient testing and specimen processing.
  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do the job.
  • Maintains confidentiality.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate's Degree required.

Experience:

  • Two years' experience performing X-ray images.

License/Certification:

  • Radiology Technologist certification required (ARRT).
  • Current CPR certification.

Special Skills:

  • Knowledge of chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes use of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, and production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in an ambulatory health care environment and to work effectively with management and clinical staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; organizational skills, attention to detail and able to handle pressures from people, and environment.
