GVEA is an electric cooperative that owns and maintains 3,491 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 35 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, Clear Space Force Station, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, which extends from Homer to Fairbanks. YOUR ROLE AS THE SAFETY SPECIALIST
As a full-time Safety Specialist at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will play an important role in promoting a strong safety culture and protecting the well-being of employees, members, contractors, and the public. You will help reduce workplace hazards, prevent injuries, and support continuous improvement of safety performance across GVEA.
In this role, you will lead and support a variety of safety and risk programs, conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments, and investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses to identify root causes and corrective actions. You will also support workers' compensation and general liability claims, maintain required safety records and OSHA documentation, and help ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations.
You will also develop and deliver safety training, conduct new employee and contractor safety orientations, and coach leaders on effective safety practices. From researching safety regulations and developing procedures to working directly with employees in the field, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on GVEA's commitment to a safe and healthy workplace.
To excel as a Safety Specialist at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates should have a strong background in occupational safety and a working knowledge of applicable safety regulations. This position requires an Associate degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Science, or Engineering, although a minimum of five years of relevant safety experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement. Candidates must also have a valid Alaska driver's license and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
