JOB SUMMARY:

The Student Electrical Project Engineer supports the Program Manager, Project Manager, Foreman, and Project Engineer with various documentation, coordination, and administrative tasks related to electrical construction projects. This role provides hands-on exposure to project operations, field coordination, and construction documentation while assisting with daily project activities. This temporary position is designed for individuals currently enrolled in a related postsecondary program and is expected to last approximately four (4) months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance. The role will primarily involve office-based project support, with periodic travel to job sites to assist with field operations, documentation, and coordination.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with electrical takeoffs from project drawings and construction plans.
  • Support project staff with quantity tracking, documentation, and material coordination.
  • Assist the Foreman with the preparation and organization of daily project reports and documentation.
  • Prepare submittals, O&M documentation, and other required project deliverables for review and submission.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient field office.
  • Keep detailed project records, including job diaries, photos, and video documentation of work progress.
  • Draft correspondence related to project routes, project coordination, and field activities as needed.
  • Document changes in work scope, conditions, and field activities, and communicate updates to the Superintendent, Project Manager, and Corporate Office.
  • Assist with project health, safety, and environmental compliance documentation and reporting.
  • Support the Project Manager and Foreman in updating, monitoring, and maintaining the project schedule.
  • Travel to remote work locations for extended periods as required by project needs.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of the electrical construction industry and a strong willingness to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical symbols and conventions associated with typical electrical construction drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of submittals, submittal registers, and construction documentation processes.
  • Ability to identify problems promptly and support resolution through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Ability to gather and analyze information skillfully and assist in developing alternative solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively in group problem-solving situations and collaborate with field and office personnel.
  • Ability to focus on resolving conflict professionally and maintain confidentiality when required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using both verbal and written methods.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret basic charts or graphs.
  • Basic proficiency with computer applications, including database, spreadsheets, and word processing software, with the ability to learn company systems.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of 2–3 years of postsecondary education in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field of study required.
  • Minimum six (6) months’ experience in the construction industry or design related to construction.
  • Electrical construction experience is strongly preferred.
  • Valid current state driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screenings.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work may be performed in an office or at remote project locations throughout Alaska, consistent with typical electrical construction environments. This position may require travel to remote job sites, extended work schedules, and exposure to outdoor construction conditions. Work may require weekend and/or evening work.
