As an HR Technician you will need to have an understanding of handling confidential information and adhere to strict confidentiality protocol. Basic knowledge of computer operations and software applications is necessary, as is the demonstration customer service, and a problem-solving approach.

The International Arctic Research Center (IARC) is looking for a Human Resources Technician to provide professional support to the unit's faculty, staff, and students. We are seeking applicants with an understanding of human resources policies and procedures and familiarity with university guidelines. To be successful in this role, the applicant must have excellent communication and organizational skills and work well within a team environment.

Under the direction of the HR & Faculty Operations lead, this role provides timely guidance for IARC's faculty, staff, and students in supporting HR-related tasks. As a Point of Contact for IARC employees, professionalism, attention to detail, and a positive attitude are essential. Come join our fabulous Support Services team and help support IARC's mission!

The individual in this position will possess the ability to manage and lead within a specialized administrative area while effectively communicating with people in the unit and across the university system. Skilled in prioritizing multiple tasks and applying University, federal, and state regulations related to payroll and human resources, with strong knowledge of payroll and personnel procedures and the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations. Proficiency in electronic spreadsheets, databases, and word-processing applications is required, along with the ability to work independently and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

The role includes self-directed training to address a wide range of HR matters; managing and facilitating all aspects of the recruitment process, including advertising, application screening, candidate evaluation, and referrals. Supporting compensation and benefits programs, including monitoring family medical leave timelines. Assist with onboarding/offboarding. Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems, develop effective solutions, and clearly communicate with appropriate individuals.

To thrive in this role the ideal candidate should possess working knowledge of UA Personnel/Human Resources policies, procedures, and practices or basic principles. Ability to learn and adapt quickly with an intricate database system and be able to work in a fast-paced and heavy-workload environment with attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree in related field, one year of college/ and or two years of professional experience in human resources or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

This position is located on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus in Fairbanks, it is an on-site position with some flexible work arrangements as and if appropriate. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.
