General Functions:
The Accounting Technician (Payroll) performs specific payroll operations related to Cook Inlet Tribal Council and maintains all payroll records while performing various administrative duties. This position ensures accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies. Working in partnership with our people, the Accounting Technician (Payroll) develops opportunities that fulfill our endless potential by providing essential payroll services that support employee satisfaction and organizational effectiveness. The role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting Technician I (Payroll)
- Pre-audit time-sheets and verify authenticity and accuracy of data entry, payroll and file maintenance.
- Ensure that payroll is properly authorized and compliant with company contracts and policies.
- Ensure accurate preparation and balancing of bi-weekly payrolls.
- Manage timely and accurate distribution of all payroll checks and direct deposit earnings statements.
- Handle various payroll adjustments, including shortages, garnishments, bonuses, child support payments and changes in all voluntary deductions.
- Maintain all records in connection with payments made on behalf of employees.
- Participate as a contributing team member to support department goals and objectives.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding employee information and payroll data.
- Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.
Accounting Technician II (Payroll)
- Perform all duties and responsibilities of Accounting Technician I (Payroll) with a higher level of proficiency.
- Prepare and maintain payroll related analysis, statements, projections and any needed reclassification.
- Manage and maintain shared email for payroll communications with the organization.
- Maintain good relations with Managers to ensure proper coding of all payroll postings.
- Complete monthly reconciliation of all payroll related balance accounts.
- Assist in the annual preparation of W-2s and year end reporting data.
- Assist in worker's compensation and annual audits.
- Process weekly financial institution payroll related activity and record transactions.
Accounting Technician III (Payroll)
- Perform all duties and responsibilities of Accounting Technician I and II (Payroll) with an advanced level of proficiency.
- Provide technical expertise to Accounting Technician I and II (Payroll) as needed.
- Prepare account analysis as needed/requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Continued employment is contingent upon completion of satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.
Accounting Technician I (Payroll)
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years data entry experience.
- MS Office Experience (Outlook, Excel).
Accounting Technician II (Payroll)
- Associate's degree in Accounting or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Two (2) years related professional payroll experience.
- Experience in all relevant payroll functions, including maintenance, preparation, data entry, balancing and payroll taxes.
Accounting Technician III (Payroll)
- Associate's degree in Accounting or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Four (4) years of related professional payroll experience.
- Experience in all relevant payroll functions, including maintenance, preparation, data entry, balancing and payroll taxes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- UKG/WorkforceGo payroll processing experience.
- General Ledger reconciliation experience.
Physical Requirements:

- May require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and consistently working on a computer with repetitive motion.
- The need to occasionally move around the office to access filing cabinets, storage cabinets, and office equipment may be necessary.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.
