Position Purpose: 

The Senior Accountant is responsible for various accounting functions related to AEA projects and owned assets. This position creates financial reports and reviews financial activity of various capital assets and capital projects in progress as directed by the Project Controller. This position assists the Project Controller with monthly and year-end billings to various Utilities as part of owned asset operating agreements. The Senior Accountant processes funding requests to be submitted to the trustee for debt payments and completed project work; and other routine accounting functions for support of the Project Controller.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares monthly or quarterly financial reports and funding requests. This position is responsible for creating and analyzing financial reports as directed by the Project Controller. Works with AEA project managers to ensure timely submission of funding requests to include supporting documentation.
  • Monitors and assists the Project Controller with all bond compliance tasks required throughout the fiscal year.
  • Creates journal entries with supporting documentation for debt activity and capital project accounting transactions. Prepares owned asset related ACH or wire transfers and submits to Project Controller for review and approval.
  • Assists the Project Controller with budget journal transactions related to debt activity or capital projects.
  • Inputs fixed asset purchases and deletions into fixed asset accounting module and prepares depreciation entries.
  • Assists the Project Controller with calculations and documentation of Operating Agreement billings and year-end true-up.
  • Performs owned asset fund general ledger balance sheet account reconciliations. Researches any differences and, when corrections are necessary, prepares journal entries. This also includes attaching the backup information for supervisory staff to review and post. Reconciliations are done according to deadlines, both monthly and year-end.
  • Monitors budget to actuals for all owned asset funding and reports status to Project Controller on a monthly basis.
  • Reviews investment reconciliations performed by another Senior Staff Accountant of various owned asset accounts.
  • Respond to external audit requests, both for the AEA annual audit and the Bradley Lake Special Audit.
  • As requested, assists with preparing various reports for the Project Controller, management, project management, and external requests.
  • Meets strict weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Requirements of this Position, if not listed above:

Technology, Equipment, Systems, and Tools: Requires basic skills in word processing, database software, email, and general office equipment.

Critical knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of standard accounting and governmental fund accounting.
  • Ability to read and understand the terms and conditions of grant agreements and contracts.
  • Skills in Navision or other enterprise database system, Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook.
  • Performing math/calculations.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet all critical weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible in setting work priorities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a variety of audiences (Project Managers, federal agencies, contractors/vendors, bank staff, supervisors, and other staff).
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, utilizing effective methods and computer systems for record keeping, reconciliation, and preparation of management reports.
  • Ability to learn and apply new accounting processes, policies, procedures, methods, and techniques.

Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field and four years of experience in related accounting roles is preferred. Consideration will be given to a combination of coursework in Accounting or Finance and equivalent work experience.
