About the position:

 

As a Risk and Emergency Manager, you will be technically proficient in occupational safety and health including industrial hygiene (OSHA), hazardous materials management, and environmental laws and agencies (EPA and ADEC). You will also have thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and theories of risk management, emergency management, and safety planning. Finally, you will design and oversee the campus's child abuse and molestation prevention practices and regulations (protection of minors).

 

To thrive in this position, you should have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in environmental, health, safety, and/or risk management within a complex operation. The ideal candidate will also have professional training and/or education in one or more fields related to risk and emergency management program responsibilities. These include occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management, environmental regulations (air quality, water, spill prevention), risk management, protection of minors, and emergency management.

 

As a Risk and Emergency Manager, you will also be able to work across disciplines in partnership with various campus stakeholders. This position requires someone who is an effective communicator and consensus builder, adept at persuasion, has the ability to mentor, and is able to stay current with trends and changes in applicable law and regulation. Finally, you will possess excellent organization and communication skills while prioritizing different tasks and projects across our three campuses.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's degree in business administration, risk management, or other related field, and five years of progressively responsible relevant experience (i.e. risk management or insurance industry experience); or an equivalent combination of training or experience.

 

Position Details:

 

This position is located on the University of Alaska Southeast campus in Juneau. Hybrid work arrangements may be approved under the discretion of the University. While hybrid work arrangements may be considered, the successful candidate must reside in the city of Juneau and/or relocate to the area by the time of hire. The University of Alaska reserves the right to require employees to work on-site at University of Alaska facilities. This role also includes occasional travel to the UAS Ketchikan and Sitka campuses.

 

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/compensation/salary.php, Grade 82, based on education and experience.
