Fossil Fuel Resistance Organizer
Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition
Summary of Position: FCAC seeks a dynamic and passionate individual to build people power, advance our coalition’s anti-extraction efforts and support the managed decline of fossil fuels. The organizer will create space for volunteer leadership and organizing in the Interior and statewide. The area of focus is within FCAC’s Keep It In the Ground (KING) volunteer working group, which seeks to end state support for oil and gas. The primary focus is to maintain long-term relationships with volunteers, support a volunteer-led structure and assist with strategy and communications logistics. The organizer will also help recruit new volunteers with the goal of building a wide base of volunteer leaders as well as connect the working group to the rest of the FCAC working groups and actors in the statewide and national movement as appropriate. The KING working group is currently planning a statewide campaign, which the organizer will directly support. Part of the KING campaign may involve non-violent direct action; the organizer needs to be comfortable participating alongside volunteers. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in most or all of the following areas: grassroots organizing, communications, advocacy, volunteer coordination, cross-cultural communication and social equity. Ability to work collaboratively is a must. While this position is part of a supportive and dynamic team, the individual is expected to make their own work plan, prioritize tasks and make a schedule that works for them and volunteers.
FCAC is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, especially those with lived experiences connected to our work addressing climate justice and systemic change. Employment decisions are based on qualifications without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability status, or any other protected characteristic. We strongly encourage people who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQIA2+, women, people with disabilities, and members of other marginalized communities to apply.
