Salary Band: T19 - Starting T19 – T3 ($45.12 – $55.80 per hour) – DOE (Progress max T6 $66.23/hour)

Location: Valdez - Alaska residency is preferred. Individuals living away from Valdez are responsible to report to their work location on time, and to report if required for unscheduled overtime.  Each week will consist of 40 hours of regular pay and 44 hours of overtime pay.  Valdez living expenses (housing, food, etc.) are not reimbursed.

TECHNICIAN PROGRESSION:

  • Technicians will participate in basic training that will provide an understanding of Alyeska’s technical systems and business processes and what it is like to be a technician on the Trans Alaskan Pipeline System (TAPS).  After basic training, individuals will be placed into their initial job assignments and begin the technician progression program.
  • Alyeska Pipeline has a formal progression program that enables technicians to advance in pay with experience. The progression program includes performance objectives and specific developmental goals, all within the established program timeline (which includes milestones and testing for completion).  A mentor will also be provided to help guide the individual through the program.

The Technician will be accountable for the following duties:

  • Operation of boilers, power generation, power distribution and crude vapor collection systems
  • Operation of wastewater and water treatment systems
  • Operation of bulk crude storage systems
  • Operation of metering and sampling equipment
  • Operation of crude oil loading berths and tug dock liquid transfer systems
  • Operation of fire protection systems
  • Complete a developmental plan within the set timeline
  • Meet applicable Operator Qualification requirements
  • Complete redlines on drawings, procedures and other documents as needed
  • Acquire overall system knowledge and how the systems interface with one another
  • Operate fire detection, suppression and control systems
  • Work in adverse winter weather conditions
  • Work with various forms of industrial based software
  • Communicate via phone and radio during plant upset and emergency response conditions
  • Maintain documentation, such as log books, work orders, preventative maintenance tasks, and calibrations data to ensure compliance with written guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Perform energy isolation of equipment and systems for major and minor maintenance
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of the Alyeska work permit system to safely control work processes
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks, including snow shoveling and operation of mechanized equipment
  • Perform all work in full compliance with the APSC Health, Safety and Environmental protection requirements, including full participation in the behavior-based safety system
  • Perform assigned tasks in response to emergencies

 MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must meet or exceed these minimum job requirements to apply for this position.

  • High School or equivalent
  • Minimum of three (3) years of technical work experience in an industrial technical discipline. Technical industrial education at a college/university or trade school in a directly related field may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Good communication skills
  • Current valid driver’s license
  • Ability to use computer systems and common applications such as Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance systems.
  • Safely perform physical labor including climbing ladders/stairs, operating valves and equipment, walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and carrying material periodically throughout a 12-hour shift

PREFERENCES:

  • Valdez Based Operations Technicians only - Valdez residency is preferred
  • VMT Operations Technician only – prior experience operating steam power generation, power distribution, gas handling, petroleum or hydrocarbon storage, wastewater, or water treatment system
  • Experience in writing procedures and creating and maintaining records, including maintenance records and work logs
  • Ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with a computerized maintenance management system
  • Experience in using multi‐step procedures for complex tasks
  • Experience working in an industrial facility
  • Experience in a technical trade
  • Experience working extended work schedules
  • Experience working in a strong safety culture, including experience in a behavior-based safety system

Position Description: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and interpret single and three-line drawings, schematics, logic diagrams, P&ID, and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair flow, temperature, level, and pressure instrument loops.
  • Ability to operate or maintain process equipment such as generators, transformers, motors, variable speed drives, motor‐operated valves (MOV), berth loading equipment, process equipment (such as ballast water treatment, power generation, etc.).
  • Skills as needed to maintain dedicated steam boiler power plant and power distribution system. Systems may include boilers, turbines, incinerators, and compressors.
  • Marine and land-based oil spill prevention and response.
